Project 1: Artist Research Journal Pages
- Who? Who is this artist – country of origin, place where he/she worked primarily, family, friends (what artists did he spend time with, either teaching or socializing), birth and death dates
- What? What did the artist create? For whom did he/she make the art?
- When? What was going on historically at the time when most of the work was produced? For example, if the artist is Michelangelo – you would only focus historically on the time when most of his work produced. You only need an overview.
- Analyze! Choose several pieces you are attracted to – What elements of art and principles of design did the artist use? (make copies of the art work – they will go into your journal)
- Interpret! What do you think the artist is saying with these 3 pieces? Use clues from your research to help answer this. As long as you back it up, you can’t be wrong.
- Opinion! Do you like the works you choose – what is your preference order? Why do you did you put them in that order?
