Project 1: Artist Research Journal Pages

For your ARTIST find out the following:
DUE: Friday, August 21 (4 entries total)

  1. Who? Who is this artist – country of origin, place where he/she worked primarily, family, friends (what artists did he spend time with, either teaching or socializing), birth and death dates
  2. What? What did the artist create? For whom did he/she make the art?
  3. When? What was going on historically at the time when most of the work was produced? For example, if the artist is Michelangelo – you would only focus historically on the time when most of his work produced. You only need an overview.
  4. Analyze! Choose several pieces you are attracted to – What elements of art and principles of design did the artist use? (make copies of the art work – they will go into your journal)
  5. Interpret! What do you think the artist is saying with these 3 pieces? Use clues from your research to help answer this. As long as you back it up, you can’t be wrong.
  6. Opinion! Do you like the works you choose – what is your preference order? Why do you did you put them in that order?

    1. Make a “title” entry to introduce the artist.
